There was a time when Thanksgiving meant hectic emails from clients, ridiculous deadlines looming, and long nights alone bathed in my laptop’s light.
This year? I fell asleep on the couch after dinner on Thursday. (Sorry-not-sorry, in-laws!) And then I proceeded to relax and hang out with my family the rest of the weekend.
I didn’t have any clients waiting for work. I wasn’t expecting any clients to call asking for anything. And I don’t even know if there are emails waiting to be replied-to, because I haven’t checked yet (and it’s Monday morning).
It’s nice to have calm. Especially when I reflect on the miseries that my agitated business inflicted me.
The truth is that I don’t know what work awaits me today, because I didn’t check, didn’t ask, and didn’t wonder.
I’ve invested the last 5 years getting to this point. I’ve gone through full-on agency mode, hired a CEO + 5 full-time developers, only to fail miserably and start again from scratch.
Today, I have one full-time WordPress developer who handles all our emergency WordPress support requests, so I can focus on the things that build the business. Things like: rest, thought, & time away from the biz.
I just enjoyed 4 calm days with my family over Thanksgiving.
How was your thanksgiving?
